Full Professor Position in Innovative Structural Design (NETHERLANDS)


Tasks/job description:
The Professor in Innovative Structural Design heads the Chair of Innovative Structural Design, part of the Structural Design unit. This Chair aims to conduct research on the topology of structures and the development and research of new structure types. Furthermore, the Chair of Innovative Structural Design is expected to make scientific contributions to the sustainability of the built environment, its buildings and their structures and construction possibilities. From this point of view, the so-called “Integrated Lifecycle Design" of building structures, the technical and functional service life of the building structure, requirements for building deconstruction, demountable buildings and structures for flexible buildings will be researched. The Chair should also carry out research on generative design. Implementation of structural design aspects in generative design modeling is essential to guarantee useful structural solutions and to achieve structural optimization in the future. 
Cooperation, innovation and a multi-disciplinary approach are key words in the research program of the Structural Design unit within which the different research groups collaborate closely on achieving innovative research. They are

Apart from working with a motivated and inspiring team of colleagues, we can offer you a high quality laboratory. Research financed by second- and third-source funds is becoming more important for the university. In that respect you will set-up research programs and play a role in the management of research activities. With your network you acquire research projects and supply the building industry with new solutions to challenges of tomorrow. 
Besides research, the Chair will contribute to the department’s education program that educates future structural engineers for their role in this respect and trains its research staff to be up to date on current developments. The Chairs will contribute to the department’s Bachelor program on Architecture, Building, and Planning in the field of structural design. In the department’s Master track on Structural Design, the Chairs will set up and contribute to courses on Structural Design.
Requirements:
The candidate: 
  • Holds preferably a PhD on a relevant topic and has an excellent track record of scientific publications in ISI journals concerning the field of structural design and related areas of research (applied mechanics, concrete structures, design theory);
  • is a certified teacher with experience in teaching and guiding undergraduate, graduate and PhD students;
  • has proven managerial abilities and excellent communication skills;
  • maintains good collaboration with different research groups and industrial partners;
  • has international experience;
  • has experience in defining research themes and in gaining the required external funding.
