Full Professor Position in Material related Structural Design - Concrete Structures

Tasks/job description:
The Professor we are looking for leads the chair Material related Structural Design- Concrete Structures (MSD – Concrete Structures), part of the Structural Design unit. The Chair will contribute to the department’s curriculum that educates future structural engineers, supplying them with the latest insights in structural design and behavior of new materials, components and systems for buildings and supplying them with the required tools for making challenging but safe designs. The Chair will contribute to the department’s Bachelor program on Architecture, Building and Planning in the field of Structural Design. In the department’s Master Track on Structural Design, the Chair will set up and contribute to courses on concrete related structural design.

Within the chair MSD - Concrete Structures, research will be carried out concerning structural behavior of concrete specific building structures, components and connections, using experiments, numerical simulations, and mechanical models, and leading to descriptive models and design rules. Focus will be on the application of new innovative concrete building materials,  components and systems (e.g. ultra-high-performance-concrete, fiber-reinforced-concrete and FRP-reinforcement), hybrid structures (e.g. concrete infilled steel frames for stabilization of steel (high-rise) structures), strengthening methods (like externally bonded fiber reinforced polymers), new building concepts, function-integration (e.g. thermal mass).
Cooperation, innovation and a multi-disciplinary approach are key words in the research program of the Structural Design unit in which the different research groups closely work together. Click here for more information about the other vacant Chairs.
Apart from working with a motivated and inspiring team of colleagues, we can offer you a high quality laboratory. Research financed by second- and third-source funds is becoming more important for the university. In that respect you will set-up research programs and play a role in the management of research activities. With your network in the (inter)national building industry you acquire research projects and supply the building industry with new solutions to challenges of tomorrow.
You will work together with enthusiastic colleagues, interested students and hardworking PhD-students, get the opportunity to participate in an international research network and will disseminate important newly developed knowledge in the building industry.
Requirements:
The candidate:
  • holds preferably a PhD on a concrete topic and has scientific publications in the field of structural design of concrete and/or related areas of research;
  • has relevant practical experience with structural design and calculation of concrete structures;
  • has a research attitude and preferably experience with scientific, experimental, numerical and theoretical research;
  • is able to transfer knowledge understandably and clearly in spoken word and in writing (in Dutch and English);
  • has excellent communication skills;
  • maintains good collaboration with different research groups, (inter-)national organizations in the field of concrete structures and industrial partners.
Conditions of employment:
We offer:
  • a challenging job in a dynamic and ambitious university and a stimulating internationally renowned research environment;
  • an infrastructure of the highest standards, including an excellent scientific department, professional technical staff and top-level experimental facilities;
