Job description
In mathematics one can concentrate on pure mathematics, applied mathematics with computational mathematics, or optimization. You will find information on our research groups at http://www.chalmers.se/math/EN/research
You will be part of an international research environment while you expand your knowledge of the field and write your PhD thesis. This gives opportunities for many inspiring conversations, a lot of autonomous work and some travel. Usually, a position is for five years and a PhD student will spend about 80 % of his or her time on graduate studies, and about 20 % on teaching.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a strong background in mathematics. They must have obtained a master's degree or a 4-year bachelor's degree, or expect to complete that degree by September 1, 2011.
It is important that you mention in the application your specific research interests. You should also include all relevant work such as bachelor's or master's thesis (or outline of a thesis under preparation) and articles (provide an English summary if necessary) that you have authored or co-authored, together with your letters of recommendation (see item 4 below).
Application procedure
The application shall be written in English and include the following items:
1. An application of a maximum of one A4 page containing your specific qualifications for the position
2. Attested copies of education certificates, including grade reports and other documents
3. Curriculum Vitae
4. Letters of recommendation and name of reference persons (optional)
