Telemanipulation of robotic manipulators
The Jupiter Robotics project is a collaborative R&D project between ABB and Statoil with additional funding from the Research Council of Norway. The main goal of this project is to explore, develop and demonstrate the use of robotics technology for future offshore oil and gas facilities. Robotics technology has a key role to play in remote, harsh and unpredictable environments.
A 3-year Phd scholarship is vacant within the field of telemanipulation of robotic manipulators. The focus of the research is to be on one-to-many telemanipulation with one or several masters situated on shore, and one or several slaves situated on an offshore platform. Another approach to this problem is letting an operator define the problem using a master robot, and then relying on the control system to define the task for one or more robots in the field. Both approaches are relevant to this project.
Theoretical results are to be implemented and tested at ABB’s robot facilities in Oslo.
The applicants are encouraged to contact Professor Jan Tommy Gravdahl, email: Jan.Tommy.Gravdahl@itk.ntnu.no for more information.
Applications are to be submitted electronically through www.jobbnorge.no. Preferably, we want the attachments in one file. Applications should be marked: IME 017-2011.
