PhD Scholarship in Foam in Carbonate Formations (NETHERLANDS)

Job description

This project aims to gather and analyse data on foam application in methane injection for EOR in mixed-wet carbonate reservoirs. After a period of screening chemical formulations for effectiveness, the major experimental effort will focus on careful flow experiments inside rock cores; some experiments will use CT scanning to visualise fronts within the core. The sensitivity of the foam to core properties and crude oil will be tested at elevated temperatures and pressures. Finally, the results will be incorporated into computer models and the implications for field application explored.

Requirements

The successful candidate is able to carry out challenging (high-pressure) experiments with great care, analyse the data and work out the implications of the results using computer models. He or she likes to work in a team with the laboratory's technical staff and other students in the research programme. The successful candidate takes initiative, works independently, and communicates with ease in English. The candidate preferably holds an MSc degree in engineering or geological sciences. Some familiarity with petroleum recovery and EOR is desirable.

Conditions of employment

TU Delft offers an attractive benefits package, including a flexible work week, free high-speed Internet access from home, and the option of assembling a customised compensation and benefits package (the 'IKA').
