Sub-project description This part of the project focuses on the efficacy of nutritional interventions. It particularly aims to determine the impact of defined dietary intervention strategies to preserve muscle mass during energy intake restriction in overweight middle-aged and elderly men and women. The project entails controlled dietary intervention studies. Role description The PhD-student will first study the literature in view of the role of energy intake restriction in relation to muscle mass later in life. He/she will design the interventions building on the mechanistic studies which are taking place at Maastricht University Medical Center. He/she will work out the details of the Project Proposal and obtain medical ethical approval for the human intervention studies. He/she will be responsible for the organisation and conduct of the intervention studies. A research dietician will support the PhD-student’s work
