PhD/Postdoc Scholarship in Information integration in the visual cortex (NETHERLANDS)

Description

We are looking for an MSc with a strong interest in neuroscience and a background in e.g. behavioural and cognitive neuroscience, artificial intelligence, computer science, physics, psychology or biology. Our dream candidate should have proven expertise in neuroscience methods, in particular functional neuro-imaging and neurocomputational approaches. In addition, the candidate is highly ambitious, has the ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment, is willing to perform experiments in both Groningen and Utrecht, and is willing to travel and work abroad as well. The UMCG has a preventive Hepatitis B policy. This means that you must have built up sufficient protection against Hepatitis B before you can be appointed.

We offer a very challenging position that allows you work at the forefront of visual neuroscience and cross the boundaries of existing disciplines. The participating groups are embedded in strong international networks and the project offers numerous opportunities for longer or shorter working visits abroad. Groningen is a medium-sized university town in the North of the Netherlands with a lively cultural climate. The University Medical Center is located close to the center of town. The conditions of employment comply with the Collective Labour Agreement for Medical Centers (CAO-UMC). The UMCG offers a salary (PhD) of minimally € 2.086,- in the first year up to a maximum of € 2.673,- in the fourth year (gross per month). It concerns a temporary position for four years on a full-time basis (36 hours/week). You are expected to complete a PhD thesis within these four years. After the first year, an evaluation will take place. The vacancy will remain open until filled. Applications from postdoc candidates with a matching profile of experience will be considered as well, in which case the position will be changed into a three year position, with salary commensurate on experience.
