Vacant academic positions : Assistant Professor in Computer Science (AAU -Denmark)

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Computer Science, one or more positions as Assistant Professor in Computer Science are open for appointment from August 1, 2011 or soon hereafter. The position is available for a period of 3 years.

Department of Computer Science is a department with many coherent activities within research, education, technology, development and co-operation with the surrounding society, and research dissemination within the computer science area.
The department's research approach ranges from formal logic, over experimental construction to empirical description.
The research in the department has computers, programming, as well as software- and computer systems as its field.
The department offers a broad range of computer science educations at all levels as well as continued professional development.

Job description
Research areas will be within one of the following groups:
Database and Programming Technologies with particular emphasis on:
  • data management technologies, including data mining and data warehousing
  • the design, implementation, and application of programming languages, environments, and tools
  • technologies for location- and context-based mobile Internet services
Distributed and Embedded Systems with particular emphasis on:
  • real-time, embedded systems and distributed systems, networking
  • formalisms for the description and analysis of computer systems
  • verification and validation methods and tools
Information Systems with particular emphasis on:
  • development and use of computerised systems in organisations (particularly public sector organisations)
  • human-computer interaction, usability, interaction design, software development, and innovation
Machine Intelligence with particular emphasis on
  • graphical probabilistic models
  • data mining and machine learning
  • autonomous agents
  • intelligent web-based systems
Teaching will primarily be in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Computer Science, Informatics, and Software Engineering, but also in other study programmes at the University.

Qualification requirements:
Appointment to Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark, however max. six years at Assistant Professor level at the same institution).

The application must contain the following:
- A motivated text wherein the reasons for applying, qualifications in relation to the position, and intentions and visions for the position are stated.
- A current curriculum vitae.
- Education (documentation for degrees obtained).
- Scientific qualifications. A complete list of publications must be attached with an indication of the works the applicant wishes to be considered. You may attach up to 5 publications.
- Teaching qualifications described in the teaching portfolio. If this is not enclosed the applicant must include an explanation for its absence.
- Dissemination qualifications, including participation on committees or boards, participation in organizations and the like.
- Additional qualifications in relation to the position.
- References/recommendations.
- Personal data.
An assessment committee will assess all candidates.

Agreement
Appointment and salary acc. to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) on Academics in the State.
