Vacant academic positions : Associate Professor in Communication Networks (AAU -Denmark)

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Electronic Systems a position as Associate Professor in Communication Networks is open for appointment from 1st of March 2011 or soon hereafter.

Department of Electronic Systems has a staff of app. 240 employees. About 100 PhD students are enrolled in the Doctoral School affiliated to the department. The department's research area covers a wide spectrum within electrical engineering and is reflected in nine sections:

• Acoustics
• Antennas, Propagation and Radio Networking
• Automation and Control
• Multimedia Information and Signal Processing
• Navigation and Communication
• Networking and Security
• Radio Access Technology
• Technology Platforms
• Centre for TeleInfrastructure

The annual turnover of external funding within ES is approximately 9 mio. Euro stemming from both EU- and national funding as well as extensive industrial collaboration.

Job description
The associate professor position will focus on traffic analysis and network planning for complex network infrastructures. Topics include:
-Internet traffic measurements and analysis
-Network topology planning and topological routing
-Resilient network topologies and resilient networking protocols
-QoS-aware planning and dimensioning of heterogeneous networks
-Applications of graph-theory for network planning
Competences and documented experience with research management is an additional advantage.

Teaching will primarily be within Electrical Engineering, but also in other study programmes at the University. In addition, the applicant will have teaching obligations, especially supervision at MSc and PhD level.

Qualification requirements: 

The level of qualification for Associate Professors shall correspond to the level, which can be achieved as a result of an appointment as Assistant Professor, but may be achieved in other ways. The appointment presupposes that the applicant can demonstrate original scientific production at an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications.

Appointment to the position requires that both research and teaching qualifications are at the requested level. The two qualifications will be given equal and principal priority in the overall assessment.

The application must contain the following:
• A introduction letter wherein the reasons for applying, qualifications in relation to the position, and intentions and visions for the position are stated.
• A current curriculum vitae.
• Education (copies of documentation for degrees obtained).
• Scientific qualifications. A complete list of publications must be attached with an indication of the works the applicant wishes to be considered. You may attach up to 10 publications.
• Teaching qualifications described in the teaching portfolio. If this is not enclosed the applicant must include an explanation for its absence.
• Dissemination qualifications, including participation on committees or boards, participation in organisations and the like.
• Additional qualifications in relation to the position.
• References/recommendations.
• Personal data.

An assessment committee will assess all candidates.

Agreement
Appointment and salary acc. to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) on Academics in the State.
