Vacant academic positions : Associate Professor in experimental optical physics (AAU -Denmark)

University: Aalborg University (AAU) - Denmark
At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Physics and Nanotechnology a position as Associate Professor in experimental optical physics is open for appointment from 1 April 2011 or soon hereafter.

The activities at Department of Physics and Nanotechnology are within basic and applied physics as well as nanoscale effects of both solid state and biological structures. Teaching activities are focused on the MSc. program in physics and on the engineering program in Nanotechnology with MSc. specializations in NanoBiotechnology and NanoPhysics-and Materials. The department is responsible for the university clean-room which gives access a broad range of micro and nano process technologies for fabrication of structures.

Job description
Research areas will be within aspects of solid state physics, optical physics, surface physics, and bio physics. Existing strengths in the fields of optics and materials cover theoretical studies of electronic and optical properties of nanostructures, linear and nonlinear optical properties of nanostructures (thin films, wires and dots), electronic and magnetic properties of nanostructures, photovoltaic cells, diffractive optical components, nanoplasmonics, and different aspects of surface physics. Further information can be found on www.nano.aau.dk.
With the position the department wants to strengthen the field of experimental optical physics on nanostructured materials. The successful candidate is expected to interact closely with theoretical and experimental groups at the department in the fields of modeling, synthesis, and characterization of nanostructures and stimulate further development of both fundamental understanding and applications of nanostructured materials.
Teaching will primarily be in Physics and in Nanotechnology, but also in other study programmes at the University.

Qualification requirements:
The level of qualification for Associate Professors shall correspond to the level, which can be achieved on the basis of the appointment as Assistant Professor, but may be achievable in other ways. The appointment presupposes that the applicant can demonstrate original scientific production at an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications.

Appointment to the position requires that both research and teaching qualifications are at the requested level. The two qualifications will be given equal and principal priority in the overall assessment.

The application must contain the following:
• A motivated text wherein the reasons for applying, qualifications in relation to the position, and intentions and visions for the position are stated.
• A current curriculum vitae.
• Education (copies of documentation for degrees obtained).
• Scientific qualifications. A complete list of publications must be attached with an indication of the works the applicant wishes to be considered. You may attach up to 10 publications.
• Teaching qualifications described in the teaching portfolio.  If this is not enclosed the applicant must include an explanation for its absence.
• Dissemination qualifications, including participation on committees or boards, participation in organisations and the like.
• Additional qualifications in relation to the position.
• References/recommendations.
• Personal data.

An assessment committee will assess all candidates.

Information regarding guidelines, ministerial circular in force, teaching portfolie and procedures can be seen here.
