Post doctoral position in neutron diffraction studies of energy related materials

The Department of Materials and Environmental Chemistry, Stockholm University is one of the leading departments in inorganic materials chemistry www.mmk.su.se. We seek a post-doctoral scientist to perform research on energy related materials with technological applications in the fields of batteries and fuel cells. The work will make extensive use of the neutron diffraction technique and be in collaboration with the ISIS facility, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, England www.isis.stfc.ac.uk, which is a world leading facility for neutron research. Specific topics include the design of neutron diffraction instrumentation at ISIS and the development of novel characterisation facilities, including in-situ neutron diffraction studies of Ni- and metal hydride electrodes used in metal hydride batteries and simultaneous conductivity-diffraction studies of metal oxides for use in Solid Oxide Fuel Cells.

Eligibility
The applicant should have a PhD in Chemistry or Physics with a strong focus on solid state chemistry or similar qualifications. Experience of diffraction techniques, and in particular neutron diffraction methods, is an advantage. The applicant needs to have a PhD not older than 3 years.
Selection criteria
The selection is based primarily on scientific excellence. Preference will be given to applicants with experience of using diffraction techniques for the study of inorganic materials.
Conditions of employment
The position is full time at department of Materials and Environmental chemistry for a maximum of two years, although 60-70% of the time will be spent at ISIS, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, England.
For more information please contact Prof. Gunnar Svensson, e-mail gunnar@mmk.su.se or Dr. Steve Hull, email stephen.hull@stfc.ac.uk.
