University Lecturer in Science Education within the Department of Mathematics and Science Education


Subject: Science Education.

Subject description: The position is located at the Department of Mathematics and Science Education, the division of Science Education. The research activities at this division include a broad range of aspects of teaching and learning in science. The research is mainly directed at schools and teacher education, but is also developing in relation to higher education and learning in society at large.

Main tasks: Research, teaching and supervision.

Required qualifications: To qualify for employment as a university lecturer the applicant should have demonstrated pedagogic proficiency and awarded a PhD or have equivalent scientific competence.


Having a documented course in university pedagogy of 7.5 credits or acquired similar proficiency in another way is a merit. Applicants who do not have a course in university pedagogy of at least 7,5 credits or acquired similar proficiency in another way, should undertake such course during the first two years of employment.

The applicant must have the ability to collaborate as well as the competence and qualities needed to carry out the employment tasks successfully.

Assessment criteria: In the appointment process equal and special weight will be given to scientific and teaching proficiency. Weight will also be given to administrative proficiency, abilities to collaborate with the surrounding community and abilities to inform about research and developmental work.
The following will be considered as special merits:
• Master of Science in Education with a major in Physics.
• Own research in Science Education with focus on teaching and learning science in upper secondary school.
Additional information: Educational developmental work and taking part in departmental work, e.g. being a member of committees and working teams, are also duties of the position.
Most undergraduate teaching is in Swedish. If the candidate who is hired is not fluent in Swedish, he or she will be offered a possibility to learn the language during the first year of employment.
