POSTDOC IN COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS WITH APPLICATION TO TRAFFIC SAFETY

Job description
Cooperative systems rely on dissemination of vehicular state and sensor data between vehicles trough wireless technologies. It is important that the data is transmitted without too much delay and with high reliability. A vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) is a wireless networks without a central controller node and where the nodes are vehicles or roadside units (e.g., traffic lights, toll stations, etc.). To meet the requirements on delay and reliability is a challenging task for VANETs. In fact, it is known that the technology currently under standardization (based on the IEEE standard 802.11p) has weaknesses that need to be addressed. You will, together with Signal Processing and Mechatronics postdocs, define the exact requirements on the communication system such that cooperative system will function as intended. When this is achieved, you will propose communication system designs to meet these requirements. This is a chicken-and-egg problem that requires an iterative cross-disciplinary approach. You will work on completely novel approaches as well as suggesting remedies to 802.11p. This will ensure good scientific output and industrial impact at the same time.
Required qualifications
You have a recent Ph.D. degree in communications related to the physical layer of wireless communication systems. You have a good theoretical background and an interest to work on real-world problems. Experience of traffic safety and VANETSs is an advantage.
Furthermore, an interest in interdisciplinary work with researchers and engineers from other fields is essential, as are skills in simulation techniques and mathematical analysis. You should have excellent command of spoken and written English and have good collaborative skills. Teaching experience is an advantage.
About the Postdoc position The Postdoc position is an appointment that offers an opportunity to qualify for further research positions within academia or industry. The appointment is for 1+1 years of full-time employment, with a monthly salary paid. Most of your working time is devoted to your own research. Included in your work is also to take part in supervision of Ph.D. students and M.Sc thesis students. Teaching of undergraduate students may also be included to a small extent. You will attend international conferences and meetings, where you will present your own work and establish useful contacts with other researchers. The position can commence immediately.
Application procedure
The application shall be written in English and include the following items:
  1. An application of a maximum of one A4 page containing your specific qualifications for the position
  2. Curriculum Vitae including list of publications
  3. Two reference persons who can be contacted by Chalmers (describe association with them and give their contact addresses)
  4. Attested copies of education certificates, including grade reports and other documents
The application shall be sent electronically. Please use the button at the foot of the page to reach the application form.
The documents according to items 1-4 above shall be attached as two pdf-files.
