At the Department of Mathematical Sciences, which is part of both University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology, there are about 100 researchers/teachers and 50 doctoral students active in many different research areas. The department is residence of GMMC, Gothen-burg Mathematical Modelling Centre, which is one of the strong research environments of the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research. The environment at the department is characterized of internationality, with a high level of international guest researchers.
The professorship is to 20 % connected to the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg and their Centre for Finance. It is also of great interest to our students to study financial models.
Duties
The successful candidate in Mathematics, particularly Financial Mathematics, is expected to have a leading role in the research and teaching, and to carry out research on a high international level. The duties include research, teaching at all levels, supervision of graduate students and PhD students as well as interaction with the academic community, society and enterprise.
Qualification requirements
The qualification requirements as stated in the Higher Education Ordinance are applied for the position. (Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 4, section 3)
Assessment criteria
Scientific proficiency will be the most important criterion in assessing the applicant's qualifications. In the assessment of scientific proficiency, special attention will be given to proven scientific skills within the subject area of the position as well as ability to develop, lead and implement high quality education and research. Scientific proficiency is documen-ted primarily through publications in international journals with peer review system and by proven ability to supervise PhD students and master students towards a degree.
Pedagogical proficiency, demonstrated by teaching experience as well as by documented experience in developing, planning and by giving courses and lectures of high quality on all levels shall, after the scientific proficiencies, be regarded as the second most important assessment criterion. Proven ability to supervise graduate students towards a doctoral degree and supervision of master students are highly meriting.
Ability to interact with both the academic environment and with various actors in the financial sector and the ability to attract research grants from research councils and other external funding agencies shall, after scientific and pedagogical proficiency, be equally regarded as the third most important assessment criterion.
Ability to interact with surrounding community and to inform about research and development will then be considered.
