Job description |
Modeling of GaN semiconductor components for PA design
The stipend is related to the research project "CTIF-global program for wireless and mobile innovation" which is financed by Vækstforum Nordjylland.
This PhD project deals with large-signal nonlinear characterization and modeling tools for Gallium Nitride (GaN) III-V semiconductor components used in high-power amplifier applications. This is an area in which the semiconductor industry is currently investing and actively looking for tools to mature and better understand its advanced technologies. Ultimately, better characterization and modeling tools may lead to improved semiconductor performance and to faster-to-market amplifier designs. The project will make use of and further enhance already state-of-the-art large-signal network analyzer tools as well as compact and system level behavioral modeling methodologies. The project is a joint activity between Aalborg University (Technology Platforms Section) and Agilent Technologies.
Qualifications: Mandatory qualifications are a solid knowledge of RF and microwave techniques in general. It is an advantage to have experience in power amplifier design and nonlinear characterization and modeling of power transistors.
You may obtain further information from Professor Torben Larsen , Department of Electronic Systems, email: tl@es.aau.dk concerning the technical aspects of the stipend.
PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Masters degree. PhD stipends are normally for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Doctoral School of the Faculty of Engineering and Science, in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 18 of January 14, 2008 on the PhD Programme at the Universities. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed every six months. It is a prerequisite for continuation of salary payment that the previous progress is approved at the time of the evaluation.
The qualifications of the applicant will be assessed by an assessment committee. On the basis of the recommendation of the assessment committee, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Science will make a decision for allocating the stipend.
