2 PhD scholarships in Heterogeneous Multi-Processor System on Chip for Embedded Applications ( Norway )


Description

The projects will focus on development of design methods and tools for implementation of dynamic applications on heterogeneous multi-processor system-on-chip. The applications are low power embedded systems and can, e.g., be in fields such as medical sensor networks, instrumentation systems, and multi-media. They are typically data and/or control intensive. Computing platforms and design methods available today are not sufficient to support them.

The projects will be performed in the scope of the special interest group on embedded systems at the IME-faculty, and in cooperation with the research organization imec in Belgium and The Netherlands.

Applicants should have broad knowledge in several of the following fields:
embedded systems, electronics, real-time systems, computer architecture, computer science.

The appointment is at code 1017, salary level 48-61 in the national salary scheme, gross NOK. 383.700- 481.600 per annum (before tax). PhD students are normally remunerated at wage level 48. There will be a 2 % deduction to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund from gross salary.

We seek highly motivated students with an MSc in one of the fields mentioned above. You can also submit an application if you will receive such an MSc by the end of July 2011. Your personal qualities and your potential as a researcher will be important. Excellent English skills, written and spoken, are required.

The two departments will be administratively responsible for one candidate each.

Award holders at NTNU are normally appointed for 4 years with 25% of the time spent on specified work. This work is primarily linked to teaching and is usually divided so that a relatively large part is done in the first half of the period of the appointment.

Engagement as a PhD candidate is done in accordance with current appointment regulations with supplementary rules in force giving guidelines for scholarship appointments in universities and university colleges.

The goal of the announced position is to obtain a PhD degree. Applicants must agree to participate in organised doctoral study programmes within the period of the appointment. The successful applicants must agree to the conditions laid down for public employees. A contract will be drawn up regarding the period of appointment and work-related duties for award holders.
